Aluminum Tabs Donation

Branch News |
Upper Island member Pat Morris is “keeper of the tabs” and at least once a year, she bags them all up and drops them off at the Nanaimo Medical Assistants Office. From there they are sent to a metal recycle depot in the lower mainland, where they are weighed and sold for the going rate on aluminum. The money raised is donated to Zajac Ranch in Mission, where children with chronic health challenges who would otherwise not be able to attend a summer camp, can do so without worry.
If Pat is keeper of the tabs”, then Marge Brown surely is “collector of the tabs”. She refuses to allow even one beer or pop can out of her sight with the tab still attached.
Pat recently gathered up 32 lbs of tabs we had stored at Jingle Pot and delivered them to the MAO. No sooner had she done that, than Marge showed up with another 8 lbs! It takes 1,012 tabs per pound. That’s a whole lot of tabs folks! But what a simple way to raise funds for such a worthy cause!
