Donated by Bruce Masse to Jinglepot Museum
This ball jacket was worn by my uncle Aldore Masse back in 1952 while playing softball in Vancouver. The IBEW sponsorship was proudly displayed by the members.
Uncle Aldore worked in the trolley department towards the end of his career in Vancouver, after working with his brother Hector for years in the Kitchener Trouble Room. Aldore was famous for being fierce about union politics and was a great shortstop in baseball. Ball was a huge thing in the family as the brothers made themselves well known in Vancouver for their talents. This trend continued through the next generation as well with Albert, my father. The IBEW local 258 sponsored many tournaments and line families took great pride and bragging rights to place high in the Vancouver commercial leagues. In the 1950’s union organizing required big men to lead the charge to create the stable international union it is today.
