“A big thank you to the Upper Island Power Pioneers. They just stopped by the warehouse with a donation of $704.90. This donation helps provide over $3,500.00 worth of food to those in need.
The $704.00 donation was a combination of $500.00 from our club fund and $204.90 in lieu of food donations made at our 2021 Christmas lunch. Since 2009, our club has donated a total of $6,300.00. (Does not include food donations)
As an example, in 2019, 173 kg of collected food totaled a donation of $401.50.
The Nanaimo Food Bank covers more than 30 communities across Vancouver Island.
Currently, over 15,000 people benefit from the food provided free of charge by the Loaves and Fishes.
In 2021 a total of 2.4 million pounds of food valued at $6.5 million was distributed directly or via the over 100 other non-profits, food banks, schools and Indigenous communities.
In the last 12 months 3,801,748 pounds of food was sourced and our depots received 60,608 visits. The Nanaimo food distribution depots are now open 7 days a week.
The Food 4U program accepts empty beverage containers at 25 different Empties 4 Food bin locations around Nanaimo.
Most needed items are breakfast cereals, granola bars, peanut butter, canned proteins, canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and pasta sauce.
