Northern – 2025 April Meeting Minutes

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Northern Branch Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, April 8, 2025

There were 24 members and 2 guests present.

Al Beeson, President welcomed everyone and read out the April birthdays and anniversaries. Al
then introduced guests Dan and Wynette Radies of Wy’s Rebounding who did a demonstration
of the new exercise program they are promoting and they encouraged anyone interested to try it
out and/or get in touch with them. Rudy will include all of the information in the next newsletter.

Al also circulated information inviting interested members to attend the Prince George Public
Library on May 1, 2025 from 6-7:30 pm. They are introducing their new exhibit – learning about
hearing health, hearing loss and celebrate our deaf and hard of hearing community.

Al called the business meeting to order at 12:30 and asked for a motion to accept the meeting
minutes for March 11, 2025. Tim Thompson moved the minutes be adopted, 2nd by Keith Monroe,
AIF/C.

Terry Receveur, Treasurer moved his financial report of General Acct $2453.56, Entertainment
Acct $718.65 for a total of $3172.21 balanced with Beem Credit Union, be accepted. The
report was 2nd by Barb Weller, AIF/C.

Committee Reports:

Care – Elaine Hauck – absent, no report

Volunteer Hours – Donna Zellman – nothing to report – no cheque or info on 2024 hours as of
yet.

Publicity – Rudy Zellman – nothing to report – encouraged members to submit anything
newsworthy.

Membership – Nancy Thurier – all is well, please encourage new members (even those still
working)

Youth Awards – Bryan Tuson reports entries/submissions closed March 31st for 2025

Science Fair – Tim Thompson reports completed for 2025

Heritage Fair – Al reports volunteer judges are required for May 8th 8:30 am at PG Public Library

Caring Hands – Gail Thompson – no report

Small is Mighty – Pat Dool reports 3586 kids from Northern BC received care from the BC
Children’s Hospital last year – our support makes a difference! The campaign will run all of May
and further information on how to contribute will be in our next newsletter.

Old Business:

Rudy is waiting for a response from BC Hydro regarding the possibility of a Site C tour in June.

There is further information on the 2026 European River Cruise in the last Provincial News
Letter emailed to members last week and a Zoom Meeting will be done for anyone interested at
1:00 pm April 14th .

New Business:

Al mentioned the Hard of Hearing Association of BC will be at the PG Public Library as
mentioned above for any members interested .

Al also called our attention to the cost of our lunches, we have two choices – one to keep our
price at $15 and accept soup and sandwiches with the odd pizza meal OR raise to cost to $20
and have a better selection of lunch choices (today was pulled pork on a bun with fries OR a
chicken caesar salad). A vote was taken by a show of hands and the majority voted to raise the
member cost to $20 starting at our May 13th meeting. Al will speak to the Pub owner and
kitchen staff regarding this.

Leisure Activities:

Lunch $ won by Nancy Thurier and 50/50 draw of $32.50 was won by Neil Weller. Mike Smith
was the winner of an Electronic Cube (can be used for travel).

The meeting was adjourned at 12:50 2nd by Ed McEwen

Next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 11:30 am at Nelly’s Pub.
