BC Hydro Power Pioneers Northern Branch Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, November 12, 2024
Prepared by Pat Dool, Secretary. There were 33 members present.
Al Beeson, President acknowledged November birthdays/anniversaries and circulated minutes
of the previous meeting plus the minutes of the AGM, followed by lunch.
Al called the meeting to order at 12:40 and moved acceptance of the minutes of October 8th
meeting as circulated, seconded by Pat Dool AIF/Carried
Terry Receveur, Treasurer presented the Financial Report as of October 31, 2024, balanced
with the Credit Union/Beem. General Acct $2798.31, Entertainment Acct $588.15 for a total of
$3386.46. Terry moved acceptance of the report, seconded by Bryan Tuson AIF/Carried
Committee Reports:
Care Committee; Elaine Hauck – nothing to report
Volunteer Hours; Donna Zellman – nothing new to report. Donations of $500.00 to Salvation
Army and $500.00 to PG Hospice were made by several members October 24, 2024
Publicity; Rudy Zellman – reports there will be a zoom meeting November 21st on using the on-
line Provincial News Letter, for anyone who may be interested and encouraged anyone
interested in taking on this position in our next elections to step up with any questions they may
have.
Rudy also mentioned the Tree Fluffing for the upcoming Festival of Trees at the Civic Center,
any interested volunteers should contact Tim Thompson if they can come on November 24th at
1 pm. Please if attending bring your gloves and cookies/treats to share.
Membership; Nancy Thurier – thanks to all members who have done on-line renewals and
invited those wishing to pay by cheque to do so at the Christmas Luncheon on December 6th .
Small is Mighty; Pat Dool – nothing to report
Community Service Awards; Bryan Tuson has nothing to report having presented this years
award to CHSS student Mya Pawar already.
Science Fair; Tim Thompson – absent, event has been completed for this year.
Heritage Fair; Coleen and Dan Krys – absent, event has been completed for this year.
Caring Hands; Gail Thompson reminds us to bring outerwear for St Vincent de Paul, Preemie
toques and kids books for UHNBC to the Christmas Luncheon.
Old Business; Reminder of the Christmas Luncheon December 6th a 11 am at The Coast Hotel
New Business; Please advise Al if you have dietary requests for the Christmas Luncheon, the
cost of the lunch will be $25.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members. Al advised we will
have two Provincial guests attending the lunch, Roz LeBlanc and Heather Mullen.
There was some discussion regarding our upcoming Election of Officers in March of 2025, nominations will take place at the February 2025 meeting. Please consider letting your name stand for any/all positions. We will also have to decide if we require a Social Activity Convenor, which would be helpful to gather numbers and call on members who do not have email regarding regular lunch meetings and to continue with planning venues for these lunch meetings, etc. Also, we may want to have a standing Nominations Committee in place (only required to do work bi-annually for our elections).
Ed McEwen brought up and there was some discussion around Retirees Medical/Dental
coverage, it was mentioned by Al and Terry that there was some discussion at the AGM
regarding same but it is a very complex issue and is monitored on-going provincially.
Leisure Activities; Lunch $ won by Donna Zellman and 50/50 draw of $67.00 won by Judy
Clarke.
