Pacific 2024 Walk for Alzheimers

Branch News |

In contrast to the wet and dreary weather offered up by ‘Mother Nature’ for the Sunday 26th May ‘Walk for Alzheimer’s’ honouring our very own John & Linda Strobl, was the heart warming sentiments expressed by the numerous people attending. Prior to commencing the walk, the event was addressed by the local MP, the Mayor of Delta, along with speeches from the event organizer and sponsor. Linda also gave an emotional speech, voicing her appreciation for the recognition being bestowed on John and herself.

Our ‘Power Pioneers Pacific Branch Team’ had 11 folks braving the elements to walk around the somewhat muddy Paterson Park track in Ladner, along with the Strobl’s and their family, also including the husband of Shawn MacDougall and the son of Pat Campbell. Given the weather, we were not able to show off our purple Power Pioneers team shirts, until the restaurant afterward. Fundraising had also been successful, with our team donating $1050 to this worthy cause. We were also inspired on, by the haunting sounds of the world renowned ‘Delta Police Pipe Band’, with all the activities as always being recorded for posterity by our branch photographer Ben.

Following our walking efforts, the team gratefully repaired for some much needed warmth and sustenance to ‘Kings Links by the Sea’ Golf Club, which Dave Howell had been able to secure us a normally unavailable reservation. There were 13 folks who enjoyed drying out in the most agreeable ambiance of the restaurant, enjoying a good selection of comfort food at a very reasonable price! Following our participation in the event, the consensus was that of a collective “feel good” at spending our Sunday morning in the pursuit of a worthwhile cause.
