Grade 8 home schooled Alberni Valley student, Lucas Bell received the award from Upper Island Power Pioneer Rene Sampson.
His project was an in-depth study of Canadian born physicist John F Allen, who pioneered research leading to the discovery of superfluids. Lucas’ set-up, research, extraordinary knowledge and confidence during the interview portion of the judging not only earned him top marks and the Power Pioneers award, but also earned him a spot at the Provincial Heritage Fair which will be held at Simon Fraser University this year.

Of interest: Lucas’ sister Sarah, also home schooled, was the Power Pioneers award recipient in 2014. At that time, Sarah was also in grade 8.
