The North Cariboo chapter with the BC Hydro Power Pioneers Association receives yearly funds for every registered volunteer hour.
“The stipulation is we get that money, and we have to pick out a charity,” said BC Hydro Power Pioneers provincial director Rae Daggitt, listing some of the previous local organizations they have supported.
“This year, we decided on Dunrovin.”
Before retiring, Daggitt and local chapter president Roger North worked for BC Hydro for 30 years. Being a Power Pioneer means they remain passionate about continuing to support the very communities they worked in. They have been volunteering for a number of years at Billy Barker Days serving seniors. “The really odd thing about that is most of us are older than the people we are serving,” Daggitt said, jokingly. “We seem to stagger around and get it done, and that’s what the Power Pioneers are all about: giving back to the communities we’ve worked in.”
Accepting the $240 donation on behalf of Dunrovin Park Lodge manager Pat Tresierra on Wednesday, June 1, were recreation therapist Shannon Paley, resident relations clerk Elizabeth Rempel and clinical practice lead Karen Fee.
The donation will be used towards supporting residents at the 120-bed complex care facility.
