Branch News |

The Tri-Cities Branch had a delicious potluck picnic at Lion’s Park, where they also played bocci. The recipient of the 2024 Community Service Award, Justin Comeau, and his parents came to the presentation of the $500 cheque, the letter and the BC Hydro Power Pioneers book.

Justin believes in the importance of contributing to both his school and community, while being a full-time student and working part-time jobs as a tutor and at a local bubble tea shop to help his family.

His contributions include:

  • Playing and coaching high-level volleyball since the age of 12.
  • Starting a free volleyball skills clinic for middle-school-age kids.
  • Joining the Red Cross at his school, promoting safety and fostering healthy relationships while training junior presenters.
  • Organizing various community-benefiting events including Pink Shirt Day, Black Excellence Day and fundraisers promoting awareness of inclusivity.
  • Directed a bottle drive to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital, raising $4000 over two years.
  • Volunteered at a fifteen-day trip to the Philippines, raising his own funds.
  • Volunteered at Aunty Leah’s Tree lot.
  • Launched an ASL club at his school, attracting 70+ participants at weekly meetings.
