This winter we have had numerous wonderful events and speakers at our monthly meetings at
Ricky’s on the corner of Schoolhouse and Lougheed in Coquitlam.
In November we welcomed Laurel Gurnsey who is an author and has written more than 5
books. You can find them on Amazon.
Laurel explained how she decided to become an author and how she created her characters
and environments. Laurel does a huge amount of research so that her characters and settings
are real. If you like a good mystery romance story, be sure to check these books out.
In November we also invited Ron Cooper to talk about his wood-working hobby. Here are some
examples of his bowls.
Our December Christmas party was particularly well attended because we have the best meal in BC with turkey, beef and salmon on the menu.
In February, Les Giles gave us a wonderful presentation about his recent tour of Britain.
And in March, we learned a lot about “Decluttering and Downsizing” with Heather Knittel from
Good Riddance Inc. Many of us have been collecting “souvenirs and other precious items” all
our lives. They have meaning to us, but will our children want them? How to decide what to
keep and what we really don’t need in our lives is a huge task.
We hope to have several more interesting topics and speakers in the Spring , including a
Lawyer speaking on “Wills and Probate Issues” as well as Fraser Health discussing “Future
Health Care” and how can we ensure we receive the care we want. Our annual picnic in
June with Bocci Ball is also lots of fun.
The Winter’s Rambles were also exciting this year, with hot chocolate and visiting the LaFarge
Christmas Lights in December.
In February, we rambled along the Pitt Meadows Dyke
and visited the DeBovile Slough Trailhead in March. The lunches following the hikes are also enjoyed immensely.
Finally for those who enjoy bowling, we have “Fun Bowling” with Linda Speerbrecker on the last
Tuesday of each month. Be sure to sign up the day before.
It has been a very busy and active Winter. We hope you will enjoy our Spring activities too.
