Vancouver – 2024 UBC Science Fair Award

Branch News |

The winner of the BC Hydro Power Pioneer Award at the UBC Science Fair in October 2024 was Benjamin Lee, from David Thompson Secondary School.

Benjamin’s project was ”Deep and Non-Invasive Harvesting of CPU Waste Heat”. He compared several designs of  placement of thermoelectric generator tiles (TEGs) to maximize the benefit of harvesting heat from the CPU. Thermoelectric generators are being explored as yet another source for sustainable energy with their curious method of producing electricity. By taking advantage of a temperature differential, electricity is created, which can then be used to power electrical components.

The award comprised $100 and a certificate to Benjamin, and a perpetual trophy to be displayed in his school for a year.
